Morrill Tri Community Preschool Summer day campers visited Peaceful Prairie Nursery in Mitchell last week. The class, which includes from left: Hunter Hill, Ms. Tara Green, Liam Rodriquez, Tucker Fitzgerald, Emma Anderson, Owen Andre, Race Schwartzkopf and McKenzie Schwartzkopf, learned about candy corn plants, popcorn plants and lots of other flowers and trees. Each student took home a gerbera daisy.

MORRILL – Gardening week was a blast at Morrill’s Tri Community Preschool’s Summer Day Camp last week.

The children started off the week with music by Miss Brittney, learning the song, “Mr. Sun” and exploring different types of instruments.  In the classroom children interacted with sand, plastic bugs, planters, soil and lots of flower seeds, not to mention magnifying glasses for exploration.

“We planted grass heads and carrots and learned about the different types of plants, trees, vines and roots that provide food,” teacher Tara Green said.

Last Thursday, the group was invited to Peaceful Prairie Garden Center in Mitchell.  The children were so excited to learn about candy corn plants, popcorn plants (they actually smell like popcorn) and lots of different flowers and trees.

“We even got to pick strawberries and eat them on our tour,” Green said  “As we were leaving, each of the children was invited to pick out gerbera daisies to take home.  Peaceful prairie is also designing a landscaping plan for our play yard.  With that the children can enjoy this unit for the next few months.  It was such a great start to our summer!”

Each of the next eight weeks the campers will have a different theme accompanied by weekly field trips. These themes are Olympics, Dinosaurs, Pirates, America (closed on the 4th of July), Camping, Christmas in July, Safari Creatures and then Farewell Summer.

The summer will culminate in a closing musical program featuring all the songs that Miss Brittney taught the children.

It is not too late to join Summer Day Camp!  For enrollment information call Amanda at 247-3412.  We are also accepting children 6 weeks old through preschool age in both the Pride Cub Care and Tri Community Preschool. DHHS subsidy is accepted.
