Norris wins EMC Volleyball Tourney

BENNINGTON – The Norris volleyball team came home with the EMC Tournament championship on Saturday for the first time since 1994.


The Lady Titans (18-10) extended their winning streak to five matches by going 3-0.

In the championship against Bennington (18-8), Norris lost the first set 25-19 before rallying to win the next two sets 25-19, 25-14. The victory over the Badgers avenged a five-set loss (25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 11-25, 15-12) from earlier this season.


The Lady Titans hit .202 as Nyah Chambers led with eight kills and a .471 hitting percentage. Other Norris hitters were Kalli Kroeker with seven kills, Paige Wilkinson with six kills, Brianna Stai and Maddy Meyer with five kills each and Michaela Boon and Hanna Hosic with two kills each.


The Lady Titans served up 10 aces, including four by Lauren Borer, three by Chambers and one each by Maddie Clauss, Maddy Ramsey and Boon.


At the net, Kroeker made one solo block and four assists, Stai had two assists and Wilkinson was in on an assisted block.


Defensively, Boon had 11 digs, Molly Ramsey had nine, Maddy Ramsey had five and Borer totaled four and Clauss contributed two.


Boon dished out 32 set assists while Borer added two.


In the semifinals, Norris defeated Gretna (17-6) by scores of 25-22, 25-23.


Chambers and Wilkinson each tallied nine kills followed by five from Kroeker, three by Boon and one each by Stai and Hosic.


Molly Ramsey tallied two ace serves to go with her team-high 12 digs. Clauss and Maddy Ramsey each added seven digs, while Boon and Borer tallied six each and Chambers had five.


Boon dished out 23 set assists, while Borer, Chambers, Wilkinson and Maddy Ramsey all had one set assist.


To open the tourney, Norris defeated Elkhorn 25-12, 25-20.


Boon led with six kills, Hosic added five, Stai totaled four, Chambers and Meyer each had two and Wilkinson finished with one.


Borer served up two aces while Chambers and Molly Ramsey each had one. Kroeker made one solo block while Chambers and Stai had one assist each.


Dig leaders were Molly Ramsey with four, Boon, Borer and Wilkinson with three each, Chambers with two and Clauss and Maddy Ramsey with one apiece. Boon had 12 set assists, while Molly and Maddy Ramsey each had two set assists.


Norris played without Ayesiah Deveaux, who is out with mono.
