CRAWFORD – Morrill sophomore Braeden Struempler will be representing the Morrill golf team at the Class C State Golf Meet on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Struempler earned the right to compete at state for the first time by placing fifth with an 84 at the Class D-5 District Meet at Legend Buttes on Monday.

Struempler’s qualification is a highlight for first-year coach Curtis Howard.

“As a first year coach, I have had as much to learn and develop as the players,” he said.

“We have all been working hard and that work is paying off. Watching all of the players shoot new personal best tournament scores this year has been a step in the right direction.  From Hunter Craig taking fifth and Holden Schleve taking fourth in our PAC tournament to Braeden taking second at Bayard and then qualifying for state at Crawford with a fifth place districts finish, we are setting a solid foundation for the golf program.

Howard just wants Struempler to go out and have fun at state and take in the experience and see what happens.

“Braeden has already demonstrated this year he is capable of a low 70's round in a tournament,” Howard said. “A solid goal on a stage such as the state golf tournament is to match your best tournament round to date.”

As a team Morrill shot a 457, which was ninth place overall. Mullen, Garden County and Paxton were the three qualifying teams.

At the C-5 District atCross Creek on Tuesday, Mitchell shot a 386 to place seventh. No Tigers qualified individually and no individual scores were available as of press time.
