Mtchell’s Jori Peters, Riley Reisig, Drake Gilliland and Victoria Schwartz played in the West All-Star volleyball and football games on Saturday in Scottsbluff.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Riley Reisig and Drake Gilliland of Mitchell were members of the West All-Star football team that suffered a 21-13 loss on Saturday at the 41st Annual West Nebraska All-Star football game at Bearcat Stadium in Scottsbluff.

Reisig and Gilliland’s team led 13-7 at halftime on a touchdown and two field goals.

However, the East team outscored the West 14-0 in the second half to earn the 21-13 victory.

Gilliland continued to be slowed by a sprained ankle that kept him out of the Shrine Bowl.

“I was only able to get in a couple plays unfortunately,” Gilliland said. “It was very frustrating. I was hoping I could at least play in this one since I missed the Shrine game.”

Gilliland is now headed to Midland University while Reisig will continue his football career at South Dakota School of Mines.

In the volleyball game, Jori Peters and Victoria Schwartz helped the West team come back from an early 2-0 deficit (13-25, 19-25) to win the final three sets and the match (25-21, 25-12, 15-13) in the 34th Annual West All-Star game at WNCC.

The West has been dominant in the annual match wining four of the last four matches and 11 of the last 13.

Peters tallied eight digs, including some crucial ones in the fifth set. She also had six set assists, one kill and one block.

Schwartz led the West with two solo blocks, one kill, one assist and five digs.

“I had a lot of fun and it was a super exciting game,” Schwartz said. Playing with Jori and Michelle one last time was a bitter sweet experience. It’s the last time I will ever step on a court, so being able to do it with people that are like family is something super special.”

Peters will be continuing her college career at Chadron State for basketball.

Meanwhile, Schwartz signed Tuesday to run track and cross country at Black Hill State in Spearfish, S.D.
