Lyman church celebrates 90 years

LYMAN – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lyman celebrated 90 years with an open house, special mass and picnic on June 2.
From the history that has been pieced together, the building for Sacred Heart church was moved to Lyman in 1928 by Catholics in the Lyman area. The same building is still being used.
There are currently 18 full time members of which the youngest are in their 60s.
Some have spent most of their lives as members of this parish: Lupe Sanchez, Larry Sanchez, Annie (Martinez) Mata, Donna (Lewandowski) Hort, Willa Faye (Holcomb) Willadsen and Melaney (Willadsen) Thomas.
Some have been in the area and members for many years including Olivia Sanchez, Allan Thomas, Tillie Hill and Pauline O’Keefe.
Some are new to the area and/or new to the church community, including Helen and Rod Bremer, Larry and Pat Goyen, Bob and Marilyn Betancur and Dan and Vicky Pieper.
The congregation is partnered with St. Anne’s in Morrill and St. Theresa’s in Mitchell to form the Tri-parish Communities of Western Nebraska. The current Pastor is Father Mike Wetovick.
