BEATRICE – Sharing God’s love in word and deed has been Good Samaritan Society’s mission for nearly a century. Finding new ways to share that love with those the organization serves, and with each other, is a daily goal embraced by staff members at the Beatrice location and nationwide. The organization’s approach to doing this is to live out the eight profound traits that Jesus showed: love, compassion, acceptance, joy, humility, honesty, courage and perseverance.

The GSS Way Recognition Program aims to lift up employees and volunteers for their exceptional work and for how they live out The GSS Way while carrying out the mission of the Good Samaritan Society.

The GSS Way Champion Awards annually honors employees and volunteers who consistently go above and beyond in their work for the Society.  The four GSS Way Champion Awards include: Caregiver Champion Award, Leadership Champion Award, Employee Champion Award and the Volunteer Champion Award.

The Caregiver Champion Award is a staff member who serves others, cares for others and provides care in an awe-inspiring way of connecting with those being cared for. That award was presented to Natasha Oden, LPN, and an employee with GSS-Beatrice for five years.

The Leadership Champion Award goes to a staff member that shows extraordinary servant leadership, using the signature characteristic of the ability to make decisions based on the best interests of the community. That award was presented to Correne Adams, administrator and employee with GSS for 23 years and in Beatrice for the last 12 years.

The Employee Champion Award is a staff member who does not directly care for the residents or is in a leadership role, but excels at their duties by applying and modeling the GSS Way in every action and their values enrich all who come into contact with them. That award was presented to Patty Moening, receptionist and an employee with GSS-Beatrice for 10 years.

The Volunteer Champion Award is for a non-employee that willingly and joyfully gives his or her time to the Good Samaritan Society-Beatrice. This Champion goes considerably above and beyond to care for those we serve and is a wonderful asset to employees and those they serve. That award goes to longtime volunteer – Lana Hager.

Beatrice is located in Region 64, which includes 50 centers in Nebraska. These local award winners are then submitted to the regional level.  After the Regional Winners are announced – they then are eligible for the National level. National Award Winners will be celebrated at the Good Samaritan Society’s Annual Operations Conference, the week of June 19 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

These Champion Award Winners were presented at a special announcement banquet in the Good Samaritan Society Event’s Center on Dec. 1, 2016 surrounded by the winner’s family, friends, residents and staff. Punch and special desserts were served during the celebration. Beatrice also celebrated the honors of Moening and Hager with staff, residents, volunteers and family members on Feb. 15 at the Good Samaritan Society Events Center with a catered lunch.

The Good Samaritan Society-Beatrice has also recently received the distinctive award American Health Care Association Bronze Quality Award.
